A better conscience
For christmas I got my husband a nespresso coffee maker. We love its coffee and the huge variety but it produces also a lot of waste.
Some time ago a friend of mine visited us and saw the nespresso machine. She was like “Oh, you have a nespresso?!”. I directly felt bad because she is one of the most eco-friendly acting person I know. She wrote her thesis about how to be more eco-friendly in daily life. Since then she focused her work on this topic and writes a blog about this.
After she found out about our nespresso she was kind of happy and explained me directly why: She’s teaching kids how to recycle stuff and she has planned to make jewelry out of nespresso capsules with them. Her problem was she didn’t know anybody with a nespresso machine so she had to buy empty capsules on ebay. We made a deal: I clean out our used capsules and she uses them in her course. With this solution she doesn’t have to buy the capsules and we produce less waste. Additionally I save the coffee grounds to fertilize our plants.
